Staff Spotlight

Mrs. Karen Mead is the Longfellow Elementary Spotlight Staff member of the week.  Karen is a 3rd grade teacher who has been teaching in the Alva School District for 28 years.  She enjoys reading, being outside, and spending time with family and friends, especially her granddaughter Tindler and grandson Ace.  Seeing students have that “Lightbulb” moment and the feeling of being successful is what she enjoys most about teaching.  One of her most exicting experiences was when she went skydiving.  Karen has been honored to represent the Alva School District as Teacher of the Year and has also been selected multiple times as her site Teacher of the Year.  She is married to Dr. Chandler Mead; they have two children; a son Marcus, his wife Kala and daughter Tindler and a daughter Tylar and husband Derrick Thompson and son Ace.  Karen is the daughter of Duane and Judy Whited.
